Mr. Velappan Velappan (Head of Access Services) recently presented at “Being Data-Informed: Taking Control and Connecting Users to Content” the highly selective 26th Annual North Carolina Serials Conference held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Velappan hosted a workshop titled “Click It, No More Tick It: Using “Gimlet” Desk Statistics to Improve Services at the Charles W. Chesnutt Library.” The workshop offered to more than 100+ attendees the opportunity to learn the benefits of using the desk statistics software Gimlet, which is an easy statistics tracker and knowledge based tool that allows libraries to staff their public services’ desks wisely. This presentation detailed the special features of Gimlet, tagging the questions, tracking questions and answers, building and exporting reports, improving library services based on the questions and answers(35,398 patrons’ questions answered for 2 years & 8 months since August 6, 2014 – 1,106 questions on average per month), pros and cons of Gimlet and finally the best practices of Gimlet. Below is the slideshow used during the presentation. Velappan Velappan can be followed on Twitter as well.
