Whitfield 1Jan Whitfield, Chesnutt Library’s Associate Director for Collection Development, presented the session “Collaboration Among Faculty and Librarians in Revising Class Syllabi to Reflect Information Literacy Standards and Framework” during the NCLA Conference in Winston Salem.

Whitfield’s presentation focused on the popular Chesnutt Fellows Information Literacy program which produced nine consecutive cohorts of faculty and librarian collaborations through the years. Chesnutt Fellows, which was modeled after a similar program from Winston Salem State University grew into a noteworthy program in which librarians and faculty members worked in a concerted manner to target specific classes in which to revise the syllabus to incorporate the ACRL Information Literacy Standards for Higher Education in assignments and class goals.

The “Fellows” grew in high demand among the faculty, to eventually be recognized by the university’s administration and incorporated into a campus-wide, making evidence based decisions pathway on information literacy.
